  • Medical Update

Some of you who follow along may remember that I've been having some issues with pain in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen and I've had several tests done over the past few weeks to pinpoint the cause. I had an ultrasound Jan. 22 which came back normal. I had a HIDA scan last Thursday and got the results from that today.
Long and short of it is that my gallbladder is basically non-functional and while the ultrasound showed no stones, the HIDA scan showed that the gallbladder wasn't hardly ejecting bile at all and when it was it was not doing it properly and that there isn't anything that can be done to treat it except to have it surgically removed.

I have an appointment to talk to a surgeon next Wednesday. I'm hoping they can have me in for surgery by the end of Feb (that way I get enough time in at work for rent and bills and hopefully will be recovered enough to go to Reid's cousin's wedding mid-March).

I guess it's my turn to be crippled for a bit. God knows I've done more than my share of picking up the slack for everyone else for the past 8 months :P

So there's the update. Glad to have a definitive answer and course of treatment, even though it's surgery.

  • Surgery?  Yikes.  If that is the only way then I suppose it has to be done.  I hope it all goes well.

  • I am glad you know the answer now. At least you can work on fixing things now.

  • Gallbladder surgery isn't that big of a deal now, ideally they can even do it laproscopically. Here's to a good consult!

  • Sending prayers and good vibes your way.

  • That's cool.

I recently had a brain scan, and they didn't note anything this time, which means that I must have normal cortical sulci for my age now.  When you age, they gain prominence, but I've let four years pass since the last scan.  That means that they're probably appropriate for my age now.  They haven't gotten any worse.  The doctor mainly noted that last time there had been a change in my brain.  It wasn't so much that I had cortical sulci like an Alzheimer's patient so much as there was a change in one year that should not have occurred.

I'm a lot higher functioning too. Sometimes. I'm aware of my problems now though.

You've been picking up my slack for a while.  We can pick up yours.  We take turns being gimpy.

I won't reenter the game until June though.  They're putting me back through social skills first, and they will gradually see what I can do.

  • Hooray for answers.  Surgery is never pleasant, but like the girl said, it's pretty routine now.  My cousin is your age.  She had it last year and was barely out of work at all.

  • I guess I should say...I told you so.  But I won't. Lol.     good luck with the surg.

  • well at least you have answers now. sometimes the worst part is not knowing. and just remember, it could be worse <3
